EXCITING NEWS for Asian Canadians

The organizing committee of Asian Heritage Month, Canadian Foundation for Asian Culture (Central Ontario) Inc., is preparing a Virtual Museum of Asian Canadian Heritage (VMACCH) showcasing contemporary forms of Asian Canadian cultural expression.

Through providing opportunities to foster the recognition and appreciation of the diverse cultures of Asian Canadian society, we not only promote Asian Canadian cultural expressions, but also discover whether the cross-cultural encounters between Asian Canadians and the rest of Canada can forge new cultural expressions.

We will:

  • Feature contemporary cultural expression e.g. visual arts, theatre, video, music, dance, literature, etc., created by Asian Canadian professional artists and writers, and school and university students.
  • Show representations of how the Asian Canadian communities live and express their cultural identity in Canada in the form of photographs, videos, journals and so on.
  • Provide cultural information related to festivals, especially on how Asian Canadians celebrate their ethnic festivals, and the Asian Heritage Month Festival and events. Where possible, we will feature festival pamphlets, photos, etc.
  • Exhibit cultural traditions and storytelling, especially capturing the tales of the grandparents and parents.

This initiative is made possible by the generous support of the Canadian Heritage "Gateway" Fund.

If you would like to contribute to the Virtual Museum of Asian Canadian Cultural Heritage (VMACCH), please provide the information to us by e-mailing your intentions to vmacch@yorku.ca, filling in and signing the Release and Contact form, then mail or fax the completed form to the CFACI office (address/fax number is on the last page of form) as soon as possible.
